I'm new to the game. right now all i have is a 29g biocube with live rock. its been 3 weeks. i have some purple algae but some of the rock is getting a white film on it. im curious to know if its normal bad or good

how old is the tank??? prolly just your coraline bleaching if you just added LR...

Considering your tank is 3 weeks old it might be a little early for this but it could be a type of sponge that you get on your rock. You might want to look at this thread for what you have and what you may get in the future. https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=181286
