What is it??

I was admiring the tank the other night and I noticed a small worm like creature sticking it's head out of a hole in one of my LR's then suddenly it spit out what looked like white smoke from it's head which left a large cloud for a few minutes.
Does anyone know what this is and can it hurt the tank?

I seem to recall someone saying this is a peanut worm.
I have seen a couple in my tank.
I'd get a more credible opinion on whether they are harmful or not, but I have not seen any detriment.

I have several peanut worms in my tank, but I have never noticed them emitting any kind of white stuff. Does it unroll itself to reach things? Kind of like a sweater sleeve being pushed out if it is turned inside out. That is how peanut worms extend themselves.

I'm not sure how it extends itself as I've only seen it twice. If I can get a picture of it I will post it.
Thanks
