What is more crucial right now?

I have a 29 w/ 20 lbs lr and 1 inch cc. I only have 2 small fish and a CBS and crab eating in there right now. I have minimal mechanical filtration. What is more important, trying a DSB or more lr or more filtration? Whatever I do, I wanna do it gradually.

Is there something wrong with what you have now? Water paramiters ok? Looking for a change?
Personally my opinion is to get rid of crushed coral. If we are talking about adding livesand or liverock then we are talking about natural filtration which occurs with both. Of the choices you list I would get live sand first because if you do the live sand at anytime down the road then it will be easier to do it before you add any more rock.
In a 29 gallon both additions of rock and sand can be done without to much of a monitary burden. You could buy live sand and then add some base rock on the bottom and put your live rock on top of that and let nature take its course.
I still think that a DSB in a 29 gallon is not necessary, doable, but not necessary, a 2 inch bed would do you well IMO.
Just my 2 cents

Thomas- Thanx- Yeah, I'm gathering from others too that live (good quality) sand is more important. Also agreed that a dsb is not necessary. A friend who is also a member on this board keeps trying to convince me that I need AT LEAST a 4' sand bed, maybe even deeper. He is now debating w/ the whole dsb thing because of ciano right now. Me? No ciano here. My perams are all perfecto- temp got a little high today- fans on my lights didn't turn on- timer was unplugged. I think my husky did it. Back to normal tommorow morning hopefully. But everything else is fine.
TGolbus- Thanx but I have had a fully functional reef tank for quite some time now. -Waaaaayyy past that stage! lol.. thanx anywayz!

Another vote for live sand. Not only is it a good addition, but it will replace the CC which can be a pain.
