You need a deep breath after all of that. How long was your tank fishless? How long did you have the clowns in QT? How long after you got them did one disappear? Calm down and explain this. Come over to Disease and treatment and explain this if you want our help. I am only over here every once in awhile.

Check your filter/pumps for a dead fish. If the fish is dead in your tank you're going to have a huge ammonia spike unfortunately.

i had a rough patch for about 3 months with my tank, its all about just stepping back and making shure you are covering all the bases. you should probably (if you havent already) start a diary on here. start off by saying all the equiptment you have, how old your tank its, how many fish you have lost and why, current stock list, water parameters. this will help people on here pinpoint your problems.

my tank went fishless for 5 or 6 weeks. i have had the clown for a while in qt. i have looked that tank over and not found it anywhere in there the only place i havent looked is under the rocks. i looked on all the intakes and he isnt stuck to them. i have a hang on the back filter a cascade canister pump a plenum and 5 power heads. i ordered a uv on fri so i will have that soon. i checked the water last night and the ph was low so i added buffer but someone told me the ph will be low if the light isnt on and it wasnt so i will check it today after its been on a while. my tank has been up i think about 3 months or so i have just totally lost track i have had so much much with it going on its crazy. i asked my husband last night if we should go fresh water he said he dont want to throw all the money we have in it away.

Sounds like you may have a hitchhiker that grabbed your clown and is feeding on it under the rock. Have you tested your ammonia and trites to see if there is a spike? This could indicate if it is dead assuming it wasn't eaten very fast. Do you have a lot of nassarius and hermits? If the fish died they would probably be all over it and depending on numbers could devour it pretty fast.

Do you have a top on your tank? Fish can and do jump out from time to time and end up dead in the back of the tank on the floor somewhere. Other than that how is the other clown doing? Is he swimming well, eating, clowning around? How long has he been in the tank alive?

Set up for three months and you've already had an ich outbreak? Definitely a bad start :) Ok, post all of your water parameters, tank parameters, and equipment list. Yes, a UV is a good idea, they prevent parasites from reproducing, clean algae, and shred bacteria. Keep the bulb changed, once per year.

I would mark it off to maybe a bad fish that you got and it died. If all else is as good as it looks just move on and realize that sometimes the LFS has some fish that are destined to kick.
It would be nice to find the remains so that you knew for sure where it is, but if you have an efficient clean up crew the remains are probably long gone.

How long was your QT period before placing the fish into the DT? Ich can take up to like 3 weeks before becoming noticeable. So the QT period should be at least 3 weeks long. It might be worth having your QT tank in hypo the next time you try a new fish. But I do think I would wait a bit and make sure the other clown you have does not come down with it before adding any new additions.

i am sooooo excited i was cleaning the other day and found the body of the clown i thought died from something in the tank. just excited to find it didnt die of a disease, it must have jumped out the space by the filter bc i have a glass top on it. doing better now i have the scat fire and lawn mower and one clown all doing very well.
