My mushrooms spit out a white stringy mucas when I do water changes and a recent post suggested it was due to not aging and aerating saltwater and temperature swings. Not disagreeing with Bang Guy because he is infinitely more knowledgeable than I am about this stuff but none of mine have died as a result of this.
The stringy filiments mushrooms produce when stressed don't look like a mucus IMO. That could be what's happening but not what I envision by mucus.
I've never seen Ricordea produce these threads either. Do they? (this is just a general question...)
actually Bang Guy you are right I have never seen my ricordia produce that stringy stuff. They are in the middle of all my mushrooms and thinking back don't recall them doing this. As for the mucas looking stuff, my mushrooms, not ricordia produce what looks like clear snot. This is in addition to the white stringy stuff.
Did you ever get an answer for this? My ricordia is also having whitish/clear mucas at the base. seems they get this mucas and then the whole polyp disconnects from the rock and floats away. definately stress related but all the other corals and mushrooms in the tank are thriving. the mucas is again, at the base not on top of the polp. or anywhere near the mouth. i can't find an answer for this weird problem.
Mucus. I couldn't find anything about mucus or other "stringyness" exuding from shrooms or rics. If you handle them they get a little mucus coming from them. And they sometimes release a little zooxanthellae from their mouths. Is the stringy stuff coming from their mouths?
