i have two questions what is Ro water and how often do i need to get new filter pads?

Well, RO water is regularly referred to as Reverse Osmosis. It is free of bacteria that causes the tank to become polluted. It is much better than well water. You can get it at a water store and your LFS might sell it. I only use RO water. What kind of filter pads do you use? I change filter pads either once a month or once every 2 months.

a regular filter pad, amonia pad and phosphate pad i alternate the amonia pad with the phosphate pad every sunday

Hmmmmmm........ I use a special kind of filter pad which is filled with a kind of sand. It is a new pad which can be used for a long period of time without falling apart. I think what you are doing will work fine. It seems like that would work the best. I think you should keep doing what you're doing. One of my friends does that.
