To put it another way, it is Kelvin degrees. Kelvin is the spectrum of light, rather than temperature.

I don't know if you are familiar with Sylvania or Grainger. But if you look at their catalogs, they do give a Kelvin rating. Most standard (Home Depot) type lighting rarely exceeds 3900K. Some even go to 4300K and 4900K.
Daylight sun is between 5500K and 20000K. You need to be in this spectrum to imitate natural lighting. The higher the Kelvin rating the more to the blue (and UV) spectrum you are reaching. This is the light that permiates water in the first 60 feet of the ocean. It is the best way to imitate the true light that corals actually use.
