I would like to get a Scott's Fairy Wrasse Male (and wpu;d probabaly have to get a female, as well) as I like the Blue and Green colors. I'm not sure I have the room in my 75 gallon for both and that is my issue right now.Plus Scott's Fairies are not the cheapest-another consideration. I have enough reds and oranges in my tank. You will probably need to get multiple fish (male and female and maybe more femals) to keep the colors up. I have been told, and believe it to be true, that you need the both or the colors fade. And to me the colors are the main attraction to SWF.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I know I have discussed the Scott's Fairy before. But, I really like this fish.

Everyone has different tastes, I like the 2 i have. First 2 is my flasher, next is my solor, both have great coloring and the flasher is beautiful when he
flashes.

Puffer32,
Love your fish. Did not know they would flash across species. Always assumed you needed two of the same. Do you have a male and female? More info please. Great fish!

I have only the 2 and do not know what --- they are. They only tolerate each other, the solor being the more aggressive. My flasher flashes alot,, my tank is a 150 and he glides along the whole width flashing. Not sure what makes some flash more then others, sorry.

I always thought they flashed like that to attract a mate also, but obviously not true since mine doesn't have one, so i am thinking it does this to look bigger to intimadate the solor.

IME, the males will flash for various reasons; if excited, to show off for the females, and to display agitation or annoyance with another fish.
Some species can tend to fade a bit in the absence of a female.
As far as which is the prettiest, as stated it's a matter of preference. If money isn't a main concern, check out the lineatus fairy wrasse. IMO, one of the showiest, even more so than Scotts.
In a 75, I'd look at a group of flashers. One male and three females. The fairies are a bit bigger and more boisterous to keep more than one or two IMO, unless the system is larger.

Nicetry,
Good call on the lineatus fairy wrasse. What a fish, gorgeous! The only I don't like is the price. Holy smokes.! I do like that they are smaller than the Scott's Fairy Wrasse and now it is a possibility. Any more info on this fish? Do you have any? It seems from your post you do? How long? How big is it? How has it grown? Thanks.

I've kept two and have another on order now. Both of the previous were supermales. I the first was a good 5 inches. Very nice fish but he managed to jump out of a 2x3 inch opening around my overflow. Not pretty finding a $175 piece of wrasse jerky on the floor. I had this one for over a year. Ate everything and was very flashy. Lineatus are one of the species that don't fade in the absence of females. The second one contracted a bacterial infection that I could not effectively treat. It died after 6 months.
Now tank is totally covered and it will be a good addtion to my Great Barrier Reef biotope.
Feed it plankton, meaty foods, pellets, occasional flake. Mine would eat nori at times too.
Good luck with your choice. Wrasses are great fish and usually adapt well. Be sure your tank is covered. They spook easily and it doesn't take much to make them launch.

Nicetry gave great info. Looksd like it depends on the species if it fades or not. Lineatus Wrasses look to be good even by themselves. Could be dominance, showing off or the females that do it. Love the Lineatus, not so much the price. One might work for me.

There are some species where the vibrant colors of the male tend to wash out a bit (not totally fade) if there are no females present. Males are more brightly colored than females and the females of some species are simply kind of dull. If you purchase a male, you'll be pleased with the coloration. Try for a supermale. These are the brightest. There are wrasses that are termed secondary males and these can present as a bit less vibrant. If you're ordering online, request a supermale, otherwise if you're buying the fish from a lfs, you should be able to tell the difference.
