What is the smallest aggressive carnivourous fish you can get with a small tank?

I see them at LFS around here all the time. I doubt they're illegal.
It depends on where you are. In NY a store can have them on display if they have a permit to carry them but cannot sell them to someone that does not have a permit.

I see what you mean. According to this they're legal in WI, where I live. I never realized other states wouldn't allow them:

I remember when there was a federal law against importing them (early 70s, maybe?); then biologists convinced whoever made the decision that they could never survive a winter in the U.S. and now it seems that the warmer, southern states are the most worried. Outside of south Florida, I doubt any fish from the tropics could survive our winter water temps and reproduce. With the exception of some catfish, maybe. I think some of them could even live in the New York City sewers, along with the alligators.

But main come on.
I'd go with some sort of angler. (because that is what I really want right now probably because I can't have it)

Pirahnas are illegal, pacos are not. Disreputable dealers will sell pacos as pirahnas.
Your thinking of red bellies(also sold legally),but i have 2 black rhombs(much more aggressive),from the amazon i believe.Got them legally at my LFS.I would not put one in a 15 gallon.

If aggression is your thing, go fresh water and put in a breeding pair of convicts. The pink ones look the best IMO, and they are a ball to watch. If you're not into equal rights and political correctness you'll love the male con!

I vote for the dottybacks. as you have seen the angler can and will eat things as big or bigger that itself........love that pic

Fu's are not easy even if you get them eating.
If this is a 15 then I still say a mantis. You cannot keep any "aggressive" fish in a 15. If you go for a dotty o a gramma then it will have to be alone. You will find that they are only aggressive toward others and will be a doll in your tank.
