What is this Cotton looking stuff?

Help, I have a fairly new set up ( 55g, 2 in live sand, 20 lb live rock, 2 percula clown, 3 3-striped damsels. The tank has a hang on filter and a protein skimmer, heater etc. It was set up in March and has been cycled. We had some turbo snails and 2 starfish(choc chip and brittle) but they did not make it, not sure why. The picture that I hope to attach shows some white cottonlike growth on one of the live rocks, each growth is less than 1/2 inch in diameter and has a small bubble like spot in the center. They started about 3 weeks ago and are slowly growing. Can anyone give me a clue as to what this could be? Any help is appreciated.

Hard to say for sure but could be a type of sponge. I have something similar in my tank that is a sponge. Just kind of hard to tell for sure from pic. Hope this might help. Good sign though that something is growing in your tank on it's own. :)

they dont get very large at all. i have some that are 1/8"-3/16", id say thats about the largest, but i do have alot of them.
