Please do not add anything to the tank you can test for you can very easly overdose and wipe out a tank with some of these trace elements!!!!
do a water check and post your readings though mine dont open with an SG swing or an increase in nitrates!

The white is dead coraline algae. I would scrape it off it will slowly disovle back in to the tank over time but IMO new coraline doesnt like to grow very well on dead coraline. takes a long time anyway.

how high is high?
water changes are the easiest and fastest way to lower nitrates in a tank.
do you have refugium or sump on your tank?

i had the same problem when my zoos closed up and all it was that i needed some iodine, which you can replenish two ways
1. water changes
2. kent iodine

what test kits are you useing and what is the highest number on them and when were they purchased?
I agree that some things need iodine the only problem with useing it is that you need to have a test kit for it if you are adding it as an additive. high livels of iodine can become toxic!
