I have them too... never worried about them, makes me wonder if they turn into baby tube worms -- as my sump is covered in them as well. Other than that no idea.

Clathrina sp.
sponge. "Filter feeder usually comes in with Figi rock. Sponges frequently grow in the shade of pieces of rock or reef invertebrates, but the species above seems more light-tolerant. Generally sponges are not offered for sale, although we often ship pieces of rock with some sort of coral attached and sponges.
Generally, if you have quality live rock and a thriving reef, you will have sponges! But.....if you have angelfish, you probably won't have sponges!"
quote and pic from aquari mart.

"Filter feeder usually comes in with Figi rock.
Here is some more info from animal library......
"Each sponge has both female and male reproduction capabilities. Cutting a piece from the healthy tissue and simply relocating it to another area can form new colonies. Bear in mind the new specimen should not be exposed to air during the procedure as that may kill it. New purchases should be bagged under water with no oxygen added or should the bag contain an air space while being transported. They are not too sensitive to temperature changes, yet sudden changes in salinity may have drastic effects."
So from that, any little pcs, a reproductive event etc. etc. etc. Sponge usually grows in sumps because of the nutrient availability, dark, etc. etc.. Look at how pineapple sponge just kind of appears......
