What Is This?!?!

I just bought a 12 lb piece of LR and in a little crevace, I saw this dark green bubblr looking thing sticking out and it was almost like a mirror. I couldn't see through it. It was about inch long and a half inch wide, it was shaped like a little squash. My great friend Hairtrigger popped it. I was waiting til I figured out what it was. I hope this didn't do anything bad like releasing any spores into the tank to cause more of these. Does anybody know what this is?

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds a lot like Green Bubble algae. Typically you don't want to pop it because that can spread it. If it does spread Emerald carabs will usually clean it up for you. Just be careful if you get one. Mine decided to chew on some of my corals!

No it is not transparent,it is dark green. The most important thing is NOT to break them. It's said that the spores can spread throughout you tank.

really...GREAT!!!! Smart guy Hairtrigger broke mine after I told him not to for those same reasons. He was like -Oh it doesn't matter, I know what I'm talkin about- It's cool, he can replace everything in thye tank that gets screwed up if any. Or he can just buy my crabs and other critters to get rid of it. What else will fix this problem before it gets out of hand.

I don't think it will cause major trouble, though it is not the most popular type of algae. Generally it is best not to pop them, for sure, but it is not like you will suddenly be overrun with bubble algae. It may spread, but they are generally easy to pick out. Personally, I think it is pretty cool.

I eliminated two clusters about the size of a 50c piece of bubble algae with a knife and a siphon hose. As I scraped them off the rocks they were siphoned out. Seemed to work well & was suggested by a reliable source.

HEY HEY HEY..... whoa whoa here. Let's not get too hasty. I didn't say "I know what I'm talking about." I simply popped it despite his requests not to. :D Plus, it seemed harmless. I wouldn't have popped a coral or anything. But I might now.
And dang it, I plead temporary insanity here. when you couple being under the influence with the necessity to explore things.... somtimes it results in unwanted and unexpected actions.
Besides being notorious for destroying things, I have an uncanny desire to poke and prod unknown entities.
And I don't want to hear the drama. How's that beautiful huge coral beauty you own doing.... IN THE FREEZER?
You didn't know what the huge bubble was either smartguy. And I have simply never seen a bubble algae that big. It was pretty cool though.
Dang it all. I have to get back to work. Oooo.... computers. They seem fun to break.

Look at you trying to get a freebie. You get nothing. You already got my old 110 for dirt cheap. That seals your aquarium giving from me for life. Except for the occasional frag maybe.
And shove it. Work bites. I would much rather be staring at my tank relaxing right now.
And why are you up at 830 in the morning. Isnt that about 4 hours too early college boy?
And be sure to eat a good breakfast. We want you to have brain food to be able to have a good day of learning.
aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaahgahahhaahahahhahahahahahahahahah. Better eat a lot. :D

ok, I'm chillin' in the Computer Lab at school right now. You know what's cool? I just came out of lab, and we were studying slides of polyps and sponges and stuff. I kinda felt somewhat smart for once cuz I look at this crap everyday in my tank. Oh yeah, by the way, the light I got does not seem as bright as the one I had, PLUS I'm trying to figure out how to fit the NO fixture for the actinic on top with the new lights. Oh yeah, and breakfast this morning- Ranch & Salsa Frito Twists and a Diet Coke. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.... complex carbohydrates.....:p
