what is up with everything out of stock?

Im real new to this. everytime I go to a tropical fish im interested in its out of stock. This site is very competive to other retail centers with a lot of selection. But its all sold out.. Anyone explain?

Where are you trying to purchase fish from?
If you have a good LFS, I would suggest going there first and see what they carry.
My store will order something for me if I really want it. I have done mail order, but have a problem being here for deliver plus at my LFS I can see what I am buying ahead of time, watch it eat etc. and know exactly what I am getting.

I bought all my fishes on SWF.com and never had a problem. The fishes are usually very healthy.

Same here. I don't have a decent lfs so I have to buy online.

I think one of the mods said the stock is low now b/c it's winter

yes many corals and fish can't tolerate being shipped in the winter. you will notice that in the spring the stock list will be much higher.
