With the 14's do you need to suppliment Atinics?
That depends, some brands are bluer than others. IMO the Ushio 14,000k lamp is more white than blue, whereas the Phoenix 14,000k lamp is "windexy" blue. The ballast you use will have an effect on the color the lamp burns too.

I have the Phoenix 14000Ks and actinics. I personally don't think it's too blue but I could really tell a difference going from the 10 to the 14ks. I did a good bit of research on the phoenix and most of the review I found were very positive.

I voted 20K. That's cause that's what I'm using. I have a smaller tank (29 gallon) right now. I can live without the fastest growth rates. I also have 2 VHO super actinics to supplement.
I'm using Coral Vue's 175 watt Reef Lux 20K SE.

Best growth, 10K, but most people use 14K's, as do I.
I have three 14K 150 watts Phoenix bulbs, and although they are bluer than say, Coralife 14K's, they're really not that blue. I run 2 Royal Blue Actinics and 2 420 actinics.

I like 14-15k because it is a bright white and the corals that do not fluoresce look good. Then at night I go for 420-460nm blue light to get a good pop out of the fluorescing corals.
