ok so i went to my LFS today and bought an anemone. the anemone was in a tank that had a sign that said "long tentacle anemone" along with a picture (but this particular LFS is known for having outdated signs on their tanks and having livestock in multiple tanks..most often mislabeled). well they also had an empty tank with a sign and picture of a Condylactis next to this tank. in the picture with the condy you could clearly see the foot/base was red. the LTA picture was a top-down picture and you couldnt see any of the base. after doing a little research i now know that both LTAs and Condys have orange to red bases. i immediately told the guy that the anemone looked like the one in the picture of the Condy and he oh-so quickly agreed. (new guy..i could tell he didnt know much by the way he handled the anemone which quite frankly upset me quite a bit). so now i am hoping that i got a great deal as the condy was only $6.99 and the LTA was priced at around $30.00. i have had a purple tipped condy before and it looked nothing like the anemone i have now (maybe a different sub species) The condy i had before was white with purple tips and the tentacles were a little fatter and rounder with color than those of the one i have just purchased and was NOT red on the base at all. also the overall anatomy of the condy i had before was different..seemed like the tentacles were coming from lower on the base and had no "pattern" where as this anemones tentacles are around the outer portion of the top with a defined point along the base where there are not tentacles and there is also a large circle of space around the mouth where there are no tentacles (i know all or most anemones have this characteristic but its a large area, not just a little circle and a mouth..the condy i had before was all white and i must mention died within a few days (and the one i have is a little larger in size and has no color at all on the tips of the tentacles). im not sure if LTAs have really long tentacles or not but they arent super long..in fact i think the tentacles of the anemone i had before were a little longer? IMO i think it is the LTA or something else but they are so close it is hard to tell. he looked much smaller in the tank at the store but once i got him home and acclimated he quickly attached himself to a rock and opened up wide (within an hour or two). he is much much bigger than i thought..most likely due to better lighting and water parameters). well my question to my fellow SWF amigos is what is your opinion on this anemone? i will include a couple photos for reference. thanks for your help! sorry that you cant see the base but he has already attached himself to the rock and since this is his first day in the tank i dont want to try and move him for a picture (not that i would do this anyways) but i assure you it is red. well here are a couple photos, please let me know what you think. thanks for any help! brian
