I work at a very high-end a/v-home theater-custom installation place, Bang & Olufsen (www.bang-olufsen.com) What we go by, is tvs under 40", go LCD, over that, go plasma. Our plasmas are a bit pricey, you pay for the name, of course. But our TVs start as Panasonics, and I think the Panasonics are amazing. Panasonic makes a really nice 50" Plasma, thats actually what I plan on putting in my new living room once I move. I'm very picky about picture quality, and really like this one. Samsung makes nice plasmas & LCD's also. One of the best, bar none, is the Fujitsu, but they are quite expensive though, close in price to the Bang & Olufsen plasmas. Some even say the Fujitsu has better picture quality than the B&O, but the frame is quite boring. Good luck! It's a tough decision!! If possible, visit a lot of A/V stores and compare pictures.

I have a 50" Sony Wega LCD rear projection that I use for the same kinds of things. No Xbox yet though. I have an older video card on my computer and had to do some research to find the right adapter. S-video is no good, you'll need to find a component adapter. Similar situation with the sound card to my home theater. Good luck.

This is a difficult decision for you. We have a 42" Hitachi plasma which we got for free but thats besides the point. I believe it retails for around $2,200. We love it because it takes up limited space, it has a great picture, expecially for hd sports and the sound is decent. I haven't tried video games yet. I don't like the big dlp tv's because of their size and the picture quality isn't the same when you're looking at if from an angle and I hear the lamps burn out quickly.

I have all sorts of TV's...My main one is an LG 55LP1M , which is a 1080p, which relaced my LG 23PX5D 52" Plasma and I love it, only drawback is no gaming on it...well you can...but I don't risk it. I have 3 JVC LT26X576 2 in my master bath, and 1 in my master bedroom and I really like the picture on them as well...all I can say is buy it right the first time...spend the extra money, because its still cheaper then upgrading when you're not happy with the one you bought. The LG has a 2 year warranty which was also a plus.

I have been looking at TVs too, especially Sony LCDs. Is it true that widescreen TV have black bars unless you are watching HD?

TangWisper, what do you mean you don't "risk it"? I have a situation I have been trying to fix. all of the HiDef channels are 'overzoomed' for lack of a better term. I think it happened when a game I was playing crashed. I tried restoring it to factory defaults but I'm not sure I did it right. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

take a look at the jvc hd-Ila tv's....no rainbow effect, and no screen door effect either and you dont have to worry about burn in like plasma...The 1080p versions are out now and they are awesome... :jumping:

5 finger discount.... Just kidding. My wife also works for a

[hr]
company and she accumulated points for doing well and one of the items she picked out was the plasma. We also got a 23" lcd phillips for the bedroom but the picture stinks.

hmm...at bestbuy they told me that plasma's have great picture but they wouldnt recomend playing games like xbox on it though(something about killing the tv's life span because of the fast movements in games). they also said it sometimes has problems like ghosting, and burn-in. i havent heard much negative response on flat lcd's and that they are less capable of burn-in. whats the difference between the lcd and lcd projection though?? (projection duh, but is that all??) and are lcd projections also less capable of burn in too?? if both lcd projection and lcd are similar then i guess id get the projection since its a few hundred dollars less plus many inches bigger. yeah the tv i was looiking at has the grand wega engine.
TangWhispr, u gotta bathroom tv?? wow u must be rich or sumn.

I recently bought a 52" JVC D-ILA tv and I am very happy with my purchase. The price was good and I love watching HD channels. I also love my new HD dvd player. Now I just need more HD dvds.

Make sure you take a look at the Sony A2000 SXRD Tv. They are LCos technology and an awesome TV. I purchased the 60" a couple of months ago and it has one of the best pictures I have ever seen on a TV. You have to be careful looking at them in showrooms. The stores run them all in torch mode and their feeds are not always the best. They will look completely different when you get them home and calibrate them properly.
