What kind of silicon to use?

I was told type II from ge, but every bottle has this new bioseal stuff in it...everyone, don't tell me otherwise. Ge silicon I does not have it but VOC is <37 people said you need to be around 24-28...i bought both bottles...they are both for window and door...the ge silicon II for bath and kitchen has added mildew resistance...can I assume this new bioseal is safe and the stuff for kitchen and bath has the resitance chemical in it that is not?

Ok that is helpful and I saw your post before too, i just get annoyed when people suggest things like the ge silicone ii and say the one without mildew resistance and they all have it...

Look up the MSDS numbers for the Aquarium version and the CLEAR version for a comparision. They are the exact same. The colored non Aquaium versions have other additives, I presume they are for the color. It takes a little while to find them on their site -LOL I don't know about the GE II never looked for it. The store I go to that's close only carries DAP ( they do have Tub and Tile Mildew versions as well) - Rural King. It's about 4 or 5 dollars a tube for the non-mildew versions.

The Tub and Tile (mildew) version is usually White and not CLEAR. The one I buy for the shower is always white -I guess I never looked for any other color - LOL

Well i have been to seven stores in my area including the big ones and they only carry ge silicone I and II and only DAP caulk. So I have no idea what to do at this point.

Well i looked on the other reef site and apparently ge silicone I is the stuff to use...so i have done all my baffles with it...seems like it will be just fine...ge silicone II is bad now with the bioseal in it...all ge silicone II has it. So GE Silicone I Door and Window is the final answer!

I have used regular ge silicone myself for the sump but would not use it for any of the support of a tank wall or outer sump wall construction. I tube of ge is like 6 buck and for 10 you can buy aqua. silicone. There is a huge defarance in the stregth of the two. Also make sure the ge cures very good before you run water. It is toxic as it is curing.

If all you are doing is installing baffles and stuff then GE Silicon I, Window and Door WITHOUT the mildew, insecticides, etc chemicals in it should be okay. I asked the same question here a few months ago, and used it with no problems (albeit so far...).
I wouldn't use anything except All Glass Aquarium Silicon to build a tank or something as I can't speak for the adhesive and strength capabilities of the other stuff.
I have been told though that GE Silicon I is the same stuff as AGA Aquarium Silicon but I haven't been able to substantiate it myself.

i think the funny thing in all of this is silicone is silicone...just like oxygen is oxygen, it the added stuff that is going to make it stronger, able to stay in water...its not like they have created a new chemical...so i think everything will be just fine.

Kitchen/Bath comes in a clear too. Don't use it. I used it and killed all my corals within hours. The Aquarium stuff is a tad more expensive, but worth it considering the cost of replacing the corals.

Yeah not kitchen and bath...we all know that is bad because of the mildew resistance...ge silicone I door and window...good to go with that.
