What kind of starfish?

I had a little red starfish a while ago. He died when my water got bad. I would like to get another one but I don't know what kind he was. He was only about 1 inch across and looked like your regular starfish. He spent his time on the rocks, not a sand sifter. Anyone have any ideas?

How do you know it was when water got bad? What happened?
I ask because the little star is a Fromia, and though small, it is very delicate and likely to starve in smaller tanks. This is unfortunate as due to its small size people buy it for small tanks. But it really, IMO, needs about 100g with 100+ lbs of LR for best success, much like a Linckia.
Many will starve within a year, showing no other signs of problems.
I would rarely recommend this star for any tank under 100g that is not a mature reef, personally. Sometimes they are fine in smaller tanks, but it is not a guarantee at all.

I had surgery and was unable to take care of my tank for a few weeks. I was basically depending on my parents to just feed the fish.

was it in your 24 nano cube? there could be huge problems even had water quality not killed him. Please go the path of brittle stars if you want a starfish because they are good scavngers and can be hand fed.
