IMO, the sunpod because it doesnt heat up the tank as much as an enclosed hood does.
so if i get the sunpod you dont recommend getting the glass top as well?
thanks for quick reply. Other forums i tried took days.

Sunpod and dont get the glass. N if u can place a fan to blow across the top of the tank to keep it cool. Of course thats if u have a problem w high temps
And dont leave us since u got ur question answered.

yeah sure. well, the problem with the glass top would be that not by much but it would distort the light a bit. It would also add to a big heat problem to. Unless you have an eel or a fish breed that tends to jump, I wouldn't sweat about a lid.

I would start with about 30 pounds of lr and go from there. As far as sand, it depends on what you want. If you want just a shallow sand bed, like me, then you won't need much at all. I have about a 1/2 maybe 3/4 inch depth across the bottom.
You will definitely need some test kits, such as ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, alk., etc. Some kind of thermometer and a refractometer. You will probably want to pick up a powerhead too for some extra water movement. A koralia 1 would probably do the trick. Good luck, and ask away.

In my nano i have very little sand. Maybe 2 lbs of it. But its up to u. Either between 1-2 inchs or 5+ inches if u want a DSB. Newhere between that is said to be bad. And dont get crushed coral.
So if u buy a 20 lbs bag of sand ull prolly be okay with it.
As far as rock goes as subie said 30 lbs will be okay. the more the better. But just make sure ur happy w ur aquascape. If that means less then so be it. It just helps w filteration!

Nah, you don't need it. Any sand will become live with time, and you will have to wait for the cycle anyhow. I say save the money where you can, you could probably get away with adding some base rock too, to save some dough.

Of course you can't use any kind of sand, but what I was saying is that you don't need to pay 3 bucks a pound for the lfs "live sand." The bagged stuff is fine.

I like tropic marin pro reef, very pricey but I don't have to dose anything either
Just don't get Instant Ocean, it is fine for fish but is very lacking for a reef.
