I was wondering what lion I should get? I'm looking at the Antennata Lion or the Radiate lion. I'm looking at size, color and how easy it is to care for.

If you're looking for a lion that stays a little smaller, those would be good choices.
If you are looking for the hardiest of lions, that I would say is the volitan. The most adaptible to frozen is also the lion, in my opinion. However, radiata's and antenata's are not among the hardest of lions to keep.

Among the two, my radiatas have always been the more colorful. This is based on a limited sample, as I have only had two radiatas and two antenatas. The radiatas were a bit more colorful as far as consistency goes. The antenatas would look better some days, but they seemed to really react to the tank levels more than the others (maybe this is a good thing, after five or so days when the antenata looked a little less colorful, time for a water change. They were better than any test kit I ever bought).
All four of these fish took some patience, but were not too difficult to start up on frozen foods. Both got to be about the same size in my tanks. Ease of care is like that of any other lion once you get them onto frozen foods.
All in all, you can't go wrong with either fish. Sorry, know that doesn't really help you make a decision, but it's really a toss-up.

Both of these are greta choices over a volitans. Yeah the vols has size but as it gets bigger its colors fade into each other and it isnt near as pretty as antenattas or radiatas. Radiatas are by far the best looking of the true lion fish.

I dont count them as true members of lions mainly since they belong to neither of the normal two genus of lions; Pterois and Dendrochirus. In addition not alot is known here in the US about Blackfins just because we just dont see them.
I cant find my book right now but from memory a Russels lion gets to be around 10 or 11 inches long. You do not want a fish that big in a 55 gallon especially if you have any live rock that further takes up space. Admittingly i would prefer a Russels over a volitans for color and amount of food reasons if the tank was bigger.

Jasondean- Yes that is a Russells lion. Th emax size is one foot but is usually 10 or 11 inches. Not much bigger than a Radiata. You have a 150 gallon tank right?
Russells are availabe in a specific place i cant post here. Post yur email and ill send it to u

A 150 gallon would be great for a Russels Lion, for some reason I thought you were putting him in a 55. Lets see how to find one.
Pterois russelli is the scientific name. I find it helps to put the scientific name in a search engine and you get all kinds of hits.
they are also called a Red Volitans lionfish, Soldier Lionfish, Plaintail Lionfish and Largetail Lionfish. It will be very difficult to tell the difference between one of these and a juvenile volitans so be careful. It should be relatively easy to switch to prepared food, most of the Pterois species seem to be.
