I would take the trip being in the military dosent mean you are going to go to china anywhere else. Been in the military for 7 years and only been over seas one time so you might want to think about taking the trip now like you said its a once in a lifetime thing. Good luck.

I would take the trips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just think about it this way...right now, you're "unteathered" & can travel without worrying about children, spouse, house payments, etc.
When you're old & gray, you can still have a tank, but you probably won't be able to do this type of travel again!
Take advantage of your freedom from lots of major responsiblity now & enjoy the travel!!!!!!

Definitely go on the trip. BTW china is no longer a communist country. They still hold some old ways outside of the major cities, but overall they are a growing republic. I've been there on business working with their factories, and I loved it...except you can get lost really easy since you can't even read the street signs LOL!

well you had me envious of your parents until you stated you want to work for the goverment lol j/k .congradulations .As you stated this is a once in a life time oppritunity.the tank yes is a cool idea aslo but the chance for you to travel this way is obviously something you worked very hard to earn.take this opprintunity and run with it. the tank is something you can do when you get done.and have the time to tend to it yourself.best of luck and happy travels

Technically, China is still a communist country. However, they are not as stiff as say, North Korea. They are a growing country with a BOOMING economy, however, the government is still in COMPLETE control. Luckily, I am bilingual and do know korean, but it is different than Chinese, but some parts are similar. I am also ALMOST fluent in German, but I know Korean much better. The only reason I know Korean, is because when I was in 3rd grade, a student teacher I had was atteding college here. She was from South Korea. I gradually got interested and now am basically fluent. I would type this all in Korean, but you guys wouldnt understand it (unless u know korean, and my sisters would kill me, they dont know it)

Dont be envious of my parents, we dont have much money. I want to take this trip, and I think I will be, but I still am not totally sure. But thanks for your reply!! And everyone else who has replied!! You all are making a stressful decision much easier. Plus, it will not happen until not this summer but the summer after that. Thats when these trips are planned.

Coming from someone who had set foot in 42 countries before I was 21 years old...take the trip.
You can always get the tank later, even it means years down the road. But, you may never have the opprotunity to visit these countries again.
Years from now, you'll look back and have great memories of the trip(s).

True, I heard there's a great aquarium in Beijing. Too bad I probably wont have the chance to visit it. I'll probably be too busy meeting with government leaders and touring the cities. I dont think thats part of it. I think I want to take the trip.
