What Should I do?

Over 3 months ago when I decided to take down my 90 reef tank(another stary) I took all the contents to my only trusted LFS and at first requested cashfor the contents of the tank, but after my friend gave me her 45 gallon reef tank, I told the store that store credit would be fine.
I gave a list of the tank contents when i brought everything in the 1st time......the store said they would get back to me within a week.........nothing.........I called them back~2 moths have passed.....now the manager says he has lost the list.........so I make a new one( the original list is on my laptop, which is currently dead) I included prices(wholesale) hoping this would be helpful.......about 2 weeks before christmas I visited the store again...it has now been 3 months........I was informed that the store owner has not made a descion yet....the manager and I talked at length. I decide that giving the time of year I would give the owner until January 1st.........
So here we are January 2nd, almost 4 months have pasted.......Sometime today I have to call the store and find out if the owner has a answer for me or not..........
I was just wondering what all of you thought of this :notsure:

I think it's rather foolish to try and sell or get store credit from the LFS, they are not going to give you what it's worth. I would have sold it on craigslist or packed it up and put it in storage untill I had the fund for a proper tank. I'd be willing to bet you're just annoying the owner.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.
I was part of a similar situation.....had 'credit' at a LFS, and then the only employee/manager that knew about it left the store to work elsewhere. I had to 'eat it'
I'd recommend getting something in writing at the moment you leave your items......I had to learn the hard way.
I'm sorry to hear about it.....you may have to chalk it up to 'experience'....
Best wishes.

Thanks. I know the owner and the 2 store managers. Kim was the manager that I spoke to just before christmas. He apoligized and thanked me for my patience. Both of us agreed that the situation had gone way to far. I do know the owner, he is a neat guy, but a high anxiety level person.....not good for business. Which the manager and I both agreed on. So far the manager gave me a good faith store credit of 100 dollars to feed the current tanks that I have(money was the main reason for setting aside my hobby). The reason my husband and I decided to except the 45 gallon tank my friend gave me is because I knew I would have at least 500 dollars store credit.......(yes i know what happens when you ASSume things
) I am just praying that when i call today that I will not have to escalate this further

Unless you got something in writing you can't really expect anything, you are probably going to have to eat it and learn a valuable lesson in the process.

To begin with document each conversation with each person involved.
Do they deny they accepted your property? Did anyone or more witness you bringing your property to the store?
You will have two choices when it comes down to it depending on the scenario.
1) they offer you a satisfactory amount of credit (I hope) and its over
2) the amount is less than you did agree on, or would ever accept
If you are not satisfied, your two choices are small claims court, or walk away with the $100 credit. It is sad.
My significant other made a personal loan to someone at work..guess what
He had this guy sign an IOU, which is completely worthless, unless he takes him to court.

I'm crossing my fingers for you....maybe they can 'meet you in the middle' and give you $250 CASH or $300 credit....(Get the credit in the form of a gift card or some other written thing)
Hang in there!!!
Kindness will prevail

I talked to the owner....the good news is is that he will still talk to me and in a friendly tone too! The bad news is that he said he still has to "get to it"....then he described the horrific pile of papers on his desk. Ending on a good note, however, he invited me to come to the store and talk further about settleing the credit due. .......

Rykna, this was your property. Go in with a firm $. Help him avoid that pile of paperwork that lost the list. I know you'll be reasonable.

I agree he has had 4 months to get to it. he has probably already sold it makeing a profit on it with out paying a dime on it. I would insist on it being taken care of when you go up there and not take "I will get to itas soon as I can" for an answer. When you bought the stuff you had to pay right then before you got it right then whats the difference in them putting a credit in your name for stuff he got from you.
Hope it all works out though.

agreed.
let us know......tell them you'd really like to put this behind each of you....and move on to other things....
Unless the owner LIKES having to deal with it all the time.......

This is exactly what I had in mind
I called back today and left a message requesting the owner to call me back and set up a meeting time in which we could sit down and take care of this matter. I should have done that yesterday...oh well. I'll keep checking in daily this week until I get a hold of him and schedule an appointment to settle this.

I hope they aren't 'brushing you off'....
If you don't get a firm appt. by Friday, I'd go down there and speak with them face to face.....might be time to be a bit more demanding....
Be prepared to start a picket line in front of the store....bad publicity is never a good thing.....

And be prepared to never shop there again....Money talks!
Seems like such a simple matter...why can't they give you the benefit of the doubt?

The manager"Kim" and I are good friends. On the third time I went in, I dressed up~proffesional attire, the I mean business look. The effect was obvious when I walked into the store. The other manager, turned to say a usual greeting, turned pale when he relized it was me(and that I obviously meant business), and muttered hello. I then requested to speak to Kim. He appeared shortly and also turned a bit pale.
Man I love that......when men dress up they get respect, when women dress up(depending what we wear) we demand respect, attetion, and when &where we want it!
MOOOHAHAHHHAHA the POWER.

After 5 or so minutes of serious discusion, both Kim and I agreed that the "owner" had crossed over the line. He apoligized several times and thanked me for my patience. I then suggested that due to the upcoming holidays that I would agree to let things go until January 1st. Mean while Kim would try to make contact with the elusive owner, and try to get a answer out of him. He also gave me some store credit( this was putting his own head on the line for me) to cover food for my tanks until we could talk further.
So now here I am......Friday will be the day of reckoning. I plan to call tomorrow and make it clear that I am coming into the store, and I won't be leaving without an answer.
So God willing....I hope Kim has an answer for me. I hope I do not have to pull out the "other" Rykna........
I am usually the most sweetest, patient, forgiving, happy petite woman around :happyfish until...... and then all that is left is jack and s**t and jack left town...........
So we shall see ***)

I wish you the best..
Might want to go in with the "I dressed up~proffesional attire, the I mean business look" just to eleminate any hesitance on it from there. let us know what happens though.
