I am getting a 200-300 gallon tank and want to start what you can in a way call a "Shark Tank". I currently have a 55 gallon saltwater tank that is running without a refugium or sump and has a protein skimmer, live rock, a filter, and a powerhead. What I would like to know is if I can run this 200-300 gallon tank with like two or three protein skimmers that will be strong enough for the tank and a couple of filters for the filtration part along with some live rock and live sand? I am fully aware that there is no hang-on protein skimmer strong enough as well as hang-on filter and money is kind of an issue here for that is the reason I do not really want to get the refugium or sump. I know this is a rethorical question but I would just like know if there is a chance to run this tank with the hang-on protein skimmers and filters and just place them around the tank and if so/not can I get some suggestions on how to run it without spending too much money.

You can get a cheap fish tank and make that into a sump, but if you don't want to do that you can have a hob filter and skimmer if that is the way you want to go. Good luck, but if it was me I would get a sump, oh btw is the tank going to be drilled as in reef ready or not drilled.

Which is it 200 or 300 gal? Diff in cost of all things from the power heads, skimmer, lights and salt. Running 55gal now only 2 months getting 120gal for $370 local. So I know what you mean the 55 is small, well real small lol. But 300gal is alot. A good skimmer for 300gal is $500 and up usually. Even two smaller good skimmers will be expensive. You should have 3000 gal of water movement per hour. If fish prob 1800 or 2000gal ok. My 120 will have 1000. 1 skimmer mj1200, 1 dual filter with Chemi-pure filters and 2 mj900 power head.
What light you going to use? Is it reef or FOWLR. Im going with T2, dont go T5. T2 70 lumens per watt T5 is like 40 lumens I think so just go with the better. If you go mh use a UV glass or hood with it already. Really the best is T2 or MH.
