What should the stuff in my skimmer look like?

I don't smell mine

What is always fun is when I clean my skimmer pump
I run water through it and blow on it to get the water out.
Its always fun when you take too much of a early breath and you get that nice stench in your mouth

I bring mine to cocktail parties with a follow up of a briefing about recession. Nothing can be more intimidating.

the very first tiem i dumped by skimmer cup i wasnt thinking about the gaping hole in the middile so i pulled it off and held it sideways... dumped half the thing on my leg.. it was... unpleasant

It is a hang on. I just want to make sure that it is in properly. This is my first SW and I want it to work. Is the top suppose to be just above the water?

There should be a water line indicator on the skimmer itself telling you how high to install it. The entire collection cup should be above the water.
If you have the top just above the water line, then the air bubbles will shoot straight through the top like a volcano.

What brand of skimmer is it? This will help us try to help you. You should try to get the driest (sp) foam that you can. Whether that means adjusting your bubble flow or raising your skimmer cup.

You are so scaring me... I have not started yet and this part worries me.
I have asthma that is induced by strong sents. Good or bad. Candles, Cleaners, fire, blah blah blah.
I hope I can con hubby into cleaning the skimmer if it is that bad.

I dont think the skimmate will be much of a problem, just keep it to a wetter skimm and there is almost no smell. the darker the skimmate and the longer between cup cleanings the stronger the scent. if you dump your cup everyday there is very little time for the protiens to rot and begin to get "odiferous"

The electrician's journeyman was at my house and he drank mine for 5 bucks... I almost had him pet a lion fish until I saw him about to do it and stopped him..
Common sense is just not that common.
Anyway mine is green and watery as their is not alot to skim atm.
