Well, I need to start a fuge for my 180. I noticed green grass growing on my rock. What would be a good size? I have never had one before, but I need to do something before this stuff takes over the tank like it did in my 55 (RIP). Anyway, how much lighting? How long? Show pics of you got them to give me some ideas to!

I have a DIY 40g for my 180g. Only about 30g of water so theres room for stop drain.
Of course bigger the better but limited room in cabinet with ballest and chiller.
I use a LOA 65w 6500k $40 light thats great.
The pic is what it is.

mine is setup exactly like yours except I have 3 baffles and it has worked very well. I suggest the biggest one you can fit under there, within reason of course. I have a 40 gallon on my 100 and it has worked out pretty well, but a 50 would of been nicer for puttin the skimmer and extra pumps in. If you can squeeze it in 50%of your display tank would be great.

So Dog, when you coming over to set ut up?

I bought some macro yesterday and threw it in the sump for now. I am going to have to plumb this through the wall to under my bathroom sink. Ill have it gravity fed. What size pump for return, I have an extra 1200(at 0)gph. How long lights on for? All I have room for is a 20gl, so for now thats all I can do. The algea is not bad YET, but I know from experience what can happen. This is what I want to defeat.

You buy, Ill fly.

Not sure about what your saying. A seperate tank for sump and fuge plumbed from and to main tank? :notsure:
I woulds worry about over flow ect. if power fails. Not sure how to do the balancing act.
How much room can you have if you removed your sump to put in a sump/fuge? LxDxT.
Do you have a light over sump now for the plants you put in? If the flow is not pulling them thru the sump then thats good for now.

Putting a tank under vanity in bathroom for fuge. I wouldnt know how to set up the sump (wet/dry) for fuge. The wet/dry consists of LR rubble, and i stuffed the calupra(sp) in the baffles for the time being. If I gravity feed the tank in the bathroom, when power outage hits, can only dump so much in there beofre syphon stops......Am I wrong in this thought?

yea, siphon will stop return line but what about the drain. Are you thinking a seperate OF Box or T off the main drain to sump for a input to fuge?
Sorry im not a plumbing guru, might want to ask Squid in the equipment forum.
Can you drill and hard pipe the two filters together thru the wall?

Dog.....Im blond, and your confusing me

I was thinking like an overhang for the drain...regular PH for return. If power goes out, drain will stop.

Fat - fuge (refugium) seperate tank where macro alges are kept to absorbe unwated nutrients before they enter your tank.
Sump... part of the filter works....where I keep live rock rubble for filtration. Some ppl have bio-balls.

I have a 35 gallon fuge on my tank, however mine is different.
I have a large 100 gallon tub of water attached to my tank (more water) + my 35 gallon fuge. Inside of it I have about 100lbs of sand for a deep sand bed that never moves.
Plus I have my 125 gallon tank, with about 60lbs of sand and about 140lbs of live rock.
Once i'm home i'll post some pictures
