what size tank do we have?

We bought our tank from a guy who said it's a 75g tank with stand. What are the correct measurments for a 75g. My husband is not sure that we have a 75 that it might be a 55g.
Our measurements are:
48x12.5x20.5 do we have a 75 or a 55g.
I know it's a silly question.

According to the measurements you provided, it's a 53.25
Or you could round up to a 55. Are you measuring the inner sides or outer??

A common "55 Gallon" tank measures 47.5 inches long, 12 inches wide and 19" high (all inside dimensions) - yielding a maximum capacity of less than 47 gallons! ...

If we subtract the width of the glass (approx .5 in) we have...
12x20.25x48(rounding off there)=11,664
11,664/231=50.49
That's my guestimation... (with the new measurements)

ive got a 75 gal. tank and the measurments for mine are 48"x20"x18", so it sounds like you've got something around a 55 gal. tank.

You didn't get what you wanted, but you still got a good deal. Would you have really turned it down if you knew?? AND now you will see a bigger difference when you decide to upgrade!:D
I am just trying to help think of the positive.:D

It's a shame that it happened. I know the point is that you didn't get what you thought you were buying. I'm glad you found out now before you started buying fish for a 75 gal.
You might want to mention it to your friend anyway. She/he may not have known. That way you won't have this doubt built up inside you.
55s can be fun. Good luck

Yes we would have. It's ok. It fits for us. It was just disappointing at first.
