depends what kind of shark your thinking of..But 200 gallons is about the minimum for any shark,,, but limits you to basically bamboo sharks ...black banded etc. horns and epellautes need aorund 300 gallon ....if you want to know a great deal of info buy the book aquarium sharks and rays...Its more knowledge than you can imagine...also just sit at your computor for hours reading all the posts on this forum and you learn a lot too

If i where u i would buy a 220 get a eel, a bamboo and one other fish, but sharks creat a ton of waste and need great filtration so if i where you i would invest in a cool smaller aggressive. I dont know exactly how much u would have to spend but i have spent $500 on a 5 gallon and more on a 20. I mean sharks are great but it would be very expensive to purchase the accseories. So dont invest unless you have money. And you would have to establish the tank. so befor you even get the shark there is a long time commitment even before the shark. I know a friend who had the same idea as you, but after he put 1500 into the tank without even putting water in it he got disscoraged a got rid of it before the shark. I wanted to do the same thing as you, but i have settled on setting up eel tanks which is very cool and needs a smaller tank aka less money. If you have the money and commitment then enjoy your shark
