I would be getting a 150 gallon Lee-Mar tank. FOWLR with a blue line puffer, blue throat trigger, 2 percs, 1 lemonpeel, and some other misc fish such as gobie, tang(s) {3 of them max. prob just get one tho} and a couple other med size fish if room. what skimmer would better suit this tank...
ASM G-1X Skimmer - In Sump
Or
Euro Reef simmer with a 150GPH rate.
and also if you guys could help me out... would a DM5 Pump work? if not, what pump would you suggest?
thanks again for all of your help. much appreciated

Euro-reef is the heat. Overskim is a good rule of thumb. If your tank is 150g, get one that handles at least 250+, know what I mean?

1911 guy.. yeah i know what u mean and everyone tells me to go over on the ratings of skimmers. i talked to my LFS and they said they just about only use Euro reefs for tanks they put together. and he said they are good skimmers so its not necessary to get one 50 or 100 GPH rated over your tank size. is that true? or should i just over rate it anyways. im going to be having the biggest sump possible with good filteration. any advice on pumps?

Why spend the extra cash on the EuroReef????? they don't skim any better than a ASM and if you size the ASM correctly it will skim just the same.....All the media hype from LFS is bull.......I work continously with both skimmers, and they are made of different materials, and other than that they use the same pumps, so their isn't any difference in the skimmers, it's all in your head IMO.

Hey, now...I wasn't knocking another brand. I just said Euro-Reef is a good skimmer. From the looks of your reply you agree. Thanks for offering GNorman an alternative to Euro-Reef though.

thanks both for your help. so acrylic... would u go with a ASM and just over skim and if so what size rating would u go with for a 150g tank?

Wasn't knocking anyone and wasn't my intention.......I was referring to the comment about your LFS using only EuroReef skimmers on their setups or builds....why??? Customers paying extra cash for something they don't really need IMO.....
As far as a 150 it really depends on what your bioload is going to be and what you want to keep????? Personally I would be on the G4 or G4X.....You can never overskim a tank.......

Go as big as you can fit in your sump to handle the bioload.....You can never over skim a tank IMO........
It's cool 1911 Guy

GNorman..............FYI...I have both the ASM4 and the ASM4x. If you have the extra $40 and the extra room (larger footprint) then go with the 4x. It has the Sedra 900 pump versus the 500 in the ASM4. I have them in similar set ups, with similar bioloads. The one at work (4x) seems to do more than $40 worth better skimming than the one at home (the plain 4). ACRYLIC has more experience than I, but I agree that for the money it is difficult to beat the ASM brand. Also...IMO, you can never skim toooo much.....I have seen a tremendous change in my water quality with the ASMs.

and also, thanks so much for ur time and help. i really appreciate it

Depends IMO.....Are you going to run the skimmer in sump or external? If it's going to be an in sump setup then the ASM......If the skimmer is going to be run externally out of the sump then you would go EuroReef, since ASM shouldn't be run externally......But if it's in sump definitely ASM for the money saved. You won't be sacrificing any skimmer ability by the Euro IMO.....Plus try to get replacement parts for a Euro.....Big company "iffy" CS IMO.......

For what it's worth, I like (and have) a Euro-reef. It's been a great skimmer for the last five years. It's simple, basically "plug-and-play". Just my 2 cents.

thanks. im going to go with the Euro-Reef RS series 250 skimmer. actual rating good for 250g and its going on a 150g in sump. since im over skimming by 100 gallons is it still necessary to get a UV. the UV would mostly be bought for clearing up the water. we got the starfire crystal glass on so it should already be clear. is the UV with the money and plumbing time?
