What the heck are these???

I just turned on my light to my QT, which I keep in my closet, and I found these all over it. I have not used this QT in a long time nor have I done a water change in a long time. Just seemed very strange.

They are very small and my camera is not the greatest. This was the best picture that I could get.

strange....i just changed my filter yesterday for the first time in a while, and they were covered with those things too.

I think they must be some sort of criptic sponge I guess.... Hobbes, you had the light off for a while right? Kona you have a cover on the filter also?
Mine is covered with an opaque cover.

I believe they are Q-tip sponges (also have heard them called pineapple sponges). They are harmless filter feeders. They also show your tank is going in the right direction.
Here is a pic that is more like the ones I see.

i get those little sponges all over my tank. they love it anywhere it is dark.

Well, the light is always off on my QT, especially since it has not been used in a few months. They must thrive in the darkness. The QT is also in my closet it, so it is completely dark in there.

Those are definitely Q-tip Sponges. I have them all over my glass and on the underside of rocks. They reproduce fast and are harmless.
