over the past three weeks of visiting various LPS I noticed the difference between online and local pricing doesn't seem to be what it used to (or maybe its just me not noticing). now there was one or two high volume stores that were always comparable to online prices but even the rinky dink pet stores are just as cheap and in some cases cheaper. For me this almost negates a need for online shopping besides hard to find stuff. a few examples of local vs three VERY popular online vendors
Eibli dwarf angel:
local: $25 online: $27-34
valentini puffer:
local: $20 online: $13-20
foxface lo:
local: $30 online: $26-34 (the $26 sale price)
medium size powder brown tang:
local: $39 and $44 online: $34, $47 and $69
($34 sale price)
medium size powder blue tang:
local $59 online $49-79
matter of fact the only fish consistantly where it seemed to be even worth the shipping, the site unseen risk (size, health, eating) and lack of take it right home gradification were the large angel species. the LPS were charging things like $170 for Majestic angel and $115 for a 3" adult queen angelfish. what the heck is going on, I know by sheer volume the online places are moving much higher volume (can tell just by availability and stock activity. If most of the LPS sell one or two powder tangs or dwarf angel species you've depleted their stock). Hell car parts are like half price online.
