what the heck is it?

hi,i have a 30 gallon i'm cycling for salt water.started cycling sat.have some live rock in the tank out of main tank.came home today and it looks like one of the rocks is wrapped in a white cocoon.my molly seems alright.the readings are normal for a just cycling tank.its near a window and i forgot to shut the blind for the last two days.what is this white-kind clear stuff? thanks <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I don't know the name of it, but it can be found on almost anything that starts decaying in a tank. It is normal to find it on rock during a cycle as things on the rock die to fuel your cycle.

If it looks like you haven't dusted in 2 years, I wouldn't worry about it. It's part of the cycle and should go away. Mine took like 3 weeks to go away.

thanks i havent decided if i'll do a reef or mandrun-sea horse..or reef tank..just letting it go thru the cycle now..you guys always help bunches <img src="graemlins//freak.gif" border="0" alt="[freak]" />
