What the heck is this and why is it in my tank?

It is growing out of the rock in a few places, if i grap it with the tongs it retracts...

It doesnt have a body... it looks like its growing from the rocks...
I first saw it in the sand in the back of a cave, then it was poking up from my zoos, now its comming out of the rock pictured... is it a Brittle star? and if it is its leg is 4 or 5 inches in length!

brittle stars RARELY ever come out of the rock. I have some brittle star legs that are about 3-4" long that retract into the rock at night. i think they grow so much inside the rock that they cannot escape.

Yes, a brittle star. Just leave alone, I am sure there are hundreds in your tank. And that's a good thing.
