What to do

Also, dog aggressive is a completely different situation from human aggression, pitbulls were bred to be dog aggressive and human friendly, any that display human aggression are badly bred and should be put down, however that is not the case at all here.

You are 100% correct, it is bred into them as pointed out by other people in this thread

It's very unfortunate what happened to your puppy. Sounds as if people are sure it was the pit and not the boxer. My brother-in-law has a pit and is very friendly but she can snap and because of that I keep my daughter and 45lb boxer female away from this dog. Everyone else that I know personally who has a pit only has the dog b/c the dog is tough and they try to encourage the dog to be nasty. It takes a long time to change nature and although dogs have been domesticated for a long time, pits were bread more recently and it's part of their genetic makeup. Not to mention they are more of a pack dog than other types and when one dog get fired up the pit acts out of instinct and goes beyond the point of control. They are crazy dogs in my opinion. I love boxers and rots though.

ANY dog can become a mean dog depending on how they were treated when young or how they are trained through their life. saying it's just pitbulls that can be mean is nuts--there are many types of pitbulls that are totally different temperament wise--and i've been attacked by a nasty german shephard mix and a rotty (on different occasions in totally different neighborhoods) while walking my dog and licked to death by pitbulls.
I am glad the puppy is doing well and that you're going to try to work with them. I do though think that now that dominance has been established there won't be much of a problem. except the puppy learned that snapping and biting may be a good way of asserting dominance so you'll have to watch the puppy now.

For me personally, I choose to to be cautious. I see Pit Bulls like the triggers of the dog world. Sure, there are some great ones out there. I, personally won't take the chance. Best of Luck to you Bella!!!!

i have been following this thread for a while now but i just want to add this one thing and thats it.
everyone has pretty much turned on the pit saying it is such a terrible dog and it was definately him. but you cant be so sure so lets not doom a dog which has seemed to be a great dog til this incident. besides knowing a little bit about pits and having a boxers my whole life until i moved out of my parents i know this.
boxers tend to pick on or beat around smaller more vulnrable (sp) dogs but never intend to hurt the dog. the puppy is still developing so its bones, muscles, reflexes, depth perception etc are not all there yet and this prolly led to the severity of the incident. if it was the pit there wouldnt have been a chance to take the puppy to the doctor if it was actually "intending" to hurt or do worse to the puppy, the pits jaws would have locked and they do not release until the dog is dead, esspecially for a puppy it would have been real quick. it is virtually impossible to get the dogs to release unless a person could go for sensitive areas such as eyes or something. as it does not sound like you walked in during the middle of the incident i would say it was definately not the pit and either way i believe both the dogs didnt intend to hurt the puppy.
so before you doom dogs know a little bit about and have experience with the breeds. good luck with your doggies and do not be mad or hold a grudge against the dogs, im sure it was a freek thing and prolly scared your dogs more than anything else.

I don't want to get rid of any of the dogs, I want to try all I can to keep them, even if it means I have tokeep them separated forever, I guess I will just have to find a way to do that.

after a while and when the puppy grows up a little more and can defend itself, they should be fine.

Read this in the paper today...Just goes back to my point that only two types of people raise these dogs..And for reference, these are the same people who wear sunglasses inside and at night....

BATON ROUGE, La. An East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy was reportedly attacked by a pair of pit bulls while responding to a domestic dispute at a trailer park in the city's Bonnydell Subdivision
