I have a red Vio and black vio and a yellow head eel. i used to be able to feed the lions crill from a stick. then they wouldnt eat it any more so i tried squid nothing, scallops nothing. the eel would never eat from a stick. so we have been feeding them gold fish and they love it. tried guppys but we would have to feed them like 10 bucks worth for them to be full and thats like 30 bucks a feek worht of food in week and thats just to $$. so will i be ok with gold fish? or do i have to feed them something else?

For the long-term, any kind of freshwater fish are not going to be a nutritious meal for any saltwater creature.
Try frozen silversides.

Yeah, maybe try thawing some frozen raw shrimp, from the seafood department at your local grocery store. Twitch it around on the stick, make it look "alive".
Do you live close enough to the coast to collect crabs from the beach? If it's legal to do so, your eel would probably love that.

I have a Red Vol, Green Wolf Eel, Panther Grouper, and Clown Trigger.
I started with the Red Vol, and he was stubborn as heck about eating. The LFS only fed him guppies, so he wanted live feeders. I knew this wasn't great for him, so I was determined to feed him frozen krill and silversides. I tried wiggling the stick, being patient, but nothing worked. he just wouldn't eat off the stick. Then I accidentally dropped a small piece of krill on the surface, and sushi (the lion fish) gulped it up! I guess the movement interested him. Once I paired him with the panther grouper (Eldridge), he got straight up competitive about the krill, so feeding was a snap.
My advice is stop using feeders altogether. Give it a couple or three days to let them get good and hungry, then float a few small pieces of krill or silverside on the surface. If they show interest, put a few more pieces in the tank. If not, pack up the food and wiat until the next day. A lion can go for days without eating; he won't starve, but he does get spoiled. Just like the first time you try to wean a baby off the bottle to a sippy cup, he will resist. But you have to keep at it, or you'll be stuck with feeders forever.
Freshwater fish are kind of like fast food; they're fun to eat (at least fun for us to watch), but do not provide the nutrients marine fish need for a healthy life. Also, live feeders can carry parasites.
I hope you are successful. It was very frustrating for me, too!

Lions require a variety of foods, such as, Raw Shrimp (shell on), Squid, Octo, Scallops, Crab, Clam (out of shell), frozen sand eels, Silversides, you can try whiting (cut in smaller chunks), Tilapia (cut in smaller chunks) and so on..... All foods should be soaked in vitamins.
i used to be able to feed the lions crill from a stick.
How long have you had the lion?
What size is your lion?
Has your lion been on a staple diet of just krill?
Have you soaked any of your foods in vitamins?

I have a fuzzy dwarf and sfe and had looked at feeding it silversides and was told that in the long run these fish would not be nutritous enough either?

You can feed silversides but they should not be used as a main food source for lions, if I am not mistaken they are fatty, again overtime cause fatty degeneration. It's a food I do feed but not to often.
