What to feed my lion fish?

I just purchased a lion fish last night. The fish care taker at the store said the lion fish would eat brine, but to occasionally feed it live goldfish. I have found out that the lion will not eat brine. I don't have a problem with getting the gold fish except the town is 26 miles from me. Can anyone tell me if minnows will do? The only reason I thought of them is I live by a lake and bate stores are on every corner. <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

I recommend going to your local grocery store and buying a box of frozen squid. Cut them into little peices and feed that to the lion, its more cost efficient and freah water goldfish carry alot of disease.

I would not recomend using "feeder" goldfish, they can introduce some funky stuff to your tank. Feed him small coctail shrimp, crab flakes, or squid as mentioned in the previous thread.

Hi:
you have recieved good information here.
Goldfish and Fw feedersfish are not long term foods for a lion fish. FW feeders carry disease, and are very fatty fish. Please allow me to ask you a question. How many goldfish do you think a saltwater lionfish in the wild eats?
this is what i recommend for feeding lions -feed then what they eats in the wild, shrimps w/ shells on, chunk of crab meat, white fish flesh, silversides, squid, really any mixtures of the above. I personally, rotate thru food items weekly, and make a monthly bags of chopped/chunked seafood. I freeze it and break off chunks to feed. When its thawing i soak the chunks in selcon or zoecon. I personally feed my lions 3 times weekly, and feed the equivalent of 2-3 shrimp to each lion (chunks of meat). You have a small lion so feeding accordingly. No need to feed every day.

DamselDame,
Get away from feeders ! They are no good for your Lion, I purchased a lion about a month ago and was told the same thing and luckly for me I asked the same question you did and this is how it worked for me, He didn't eat for eight days but these guys told me to be patient and you have to he won't starve himself, My lion finally took silversides (only from my hand I am told this isn't the best way to do it but he hates the feeding stick and the tongs so I have no choice.)
Now every time he sees me he comes right to the top begging like a dog waiting for a tastey morsel
I tried brine and squid and had no luck but the siversides he loves , I just dangled it at the top kind of bobbing it up and down hoping he would think its live and he finally went for it !
Be patient and don't give in to the gold fish the quicker you get him used to frozen the better of you will be.... HTH ;)

feeding lions fresh water fish as food does have long term effects on them. it will cause liver disease. its best to feed them frozen foods clam, squid, shrimp. lions will eat themselves to death if you let them so dont feed them everyday. every couple days would be better

You can buy guppies and when you feed them guppies you'll need to squeeze them alittle so they can't swim well and place the guppy near him and he'll attack him, but guppies are actually brackish water fish and will survive in saltwater
