I am a new member to saltwaterfish.com and saltwater fish for that matter. My tank is 3 1/2 weeks through cycle and I am planning on what fish I want. So far I have decided on a percilla clown, cc star, and a cleaner shrimp. My problem is what do I feed them? Thank you for any help.

Welcome to SWF.com and saltwater fish for that matter! lol
Well, you should feed them a mixture of shrimp. I feed my perc and cleaner shrimp a mix of bloodworms (mosquito larvae) and a frozen food called "marine cuisine". This is an already-made mix of krill, mysis, and brine shrimps, with a "color-enhancing" vitamin additive, which you can most likely pick up at your nearest LFS (local fish store). The shrimp will also scavenge the tank for leftovers.
I'd be careful with the CC star. They've been know to eat anything they can get ahold of... by this i mean ANYTHING. You might wake up to see you're shrimp's not there anymore...

A mixture of shrimp haa. Imagin that a shrimp eating a shrimp!!
Kind of funny if you think of it. Kind of like the far side comic with the cow cooking hamburgers on the grill. :notsure: LOL
I read up on the cc star. I heard if they are fed enough that they are ok and I have 4 kids who can't wait for fish so I have a feeling he is going to keep plenty full
I thank you for the warning

just make sure you keep your eye on the star. My shrimp kinda grabs a piece of the shrimp and plays with it, then throws it. He doesn't eat the shrimp, i don't think. I see him nibbling on bloodworms, though.
A pointer for you. Get a turkey baster specifically for your fish tank. This is how i feed my shrimp, because they're not that quick. I take a small amount of food in the turkey baster, and put the baster near my shrimp. when he sees it, he jumps on it, and sticks his head in the end of the baster. I'd imagine he'd be saying "hummmmina hummmina hummmina" if he could talk... lol.
You'll LOVE having the cleaner shrimp. They're not skiddish at all. They also like to be in groups or pairs, so might i suggest getting two?
Here's a pic of my dude, and how "friendly" he is. I have a hard time cleaning the tank, cause he jumps all over my hand as soon as i put it in the tank!

That is so cool. I have heard great things about cleaners so I want one so much. I think they are cute too.

do not get a cc star if it is going to be a reef with corals, because they will eat them all up.
i would get a orange linka star.

i feed my false perc freeze-dried plankton occasionally, which he loves, but i have to break it into teeny tiny pieces otherwise it won't fit in his mouth, same w/ these shrimp pellets my mom gave me, i smash them w/ the lid of the container and he goes nuts over it....
i also feed him something else my mom gave me, but she just gave me a little bit of it in a diff. container so i forget what it is.... but i know he likes it

i also have a brittle star, and he gets some of the plankton occasionally too, when i can get it to him w/o my perc stealing it...

Aww your lil cleaner is cute, Jenn
I'm a fan of natural type cures so we plan on a cleaner or two and a few little neon gobies (from what I've heard and seen cleaner wrasse are more obligate parasite/mucous feeders so I chose the gobies as my cleaner fish instead).
Foods: To feed any animals in your tank find out what they eat! I.e., tangs are algae grazers mostly so one thing you can feed them is to get sheets of dried seaweed to clip in the tank for them. Plus I really feel that all animals benefit from a variety. I make a kind of game out of finding just how many different veggie and meaty type foods I can find to feed my guys then rotate what they eat each day.
Speaking of food and natural cures adding liquid garlic to your foods is a good idea. I've been a big fan of garlic for many years, all my family and animals get it, and I was happy to hear that fish get the same benefits from it. Some foods already have garlic in them and those that don't you can add a few drops of garlic to.
I forgot to tell you what the three you picked are!
Sorry! Your clown and starfish are pretty much omnivores, your shrimp a carnivore. Now think about the creatures themselves... The clown can move quickly through the water snapping up bits of this and that so anything that floats or sinks slowly/whirls about in the current will work for him. The starfish is a slow mover who won't really be able to get food from the surface or in the water column so something that stays more stationary till he can get to it to eat it is best for him. The shrimp can move about quicker than the star but still doesn't usually swim through the water column the same as the clown so he too could use something kind of stationary.

Ok! Thanks everybody for the help
I heard that the cc star likes to be spot fed so I can feed him directly without fish stealing it from him.
