as far as the ability of ich to survive in live rock, is it the calcerous nature of the live rock or the porous nature of the live rock that allows it to survive?

calcerous material is porous by nature, allowing for places for the bug to burrow. it can live for around 30-45 days without a fish host. an empty QT with plastic hiding places is a great weapon in the fight. coupled with Hypo, the ace up the sleeve, it has no chance.

Well, I checked him today, and saw no dot. I'll take the LR out of the tank.
Now what about infected lr? I've read on here 6 weeks without a host with lr sand ect.

So, I haven't seen the white spot for a few days, if that doesn't re-occur for a few weeks then we should be good to go correct?
