I'm adding my first refugium. The grow "safe spot" is 18" by 12". How much sand ( lbs. not inches ) and what is the best critters and how many to put in ?I was going to order my algea off ----, best type suggetions welcome. Also I was thinking about 12 to 25 lbs of live rock rubble. The DT tank is 125 with heavy bio load. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, caeto is the algea I'm seeing the most of. I think I'll do good with that. What about critters and sand ?

Ok I know there are alot of people out there with advice on refugiums. Give a first timer some knowledge please ?

I would put in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 ibs of sand if you want a deep bed, and don't worry about the critters they will come on the algae you buy and from you tank

this is true, naturally your fuge will boast wit life after a couple weeks of running. or you could always go on the bay site and just purchase a fuge starter pack....either or is fine

I have mangrove plants, cheato, live rock rubble, 60 lbs live sand, copepods/amphipods-if you add these it needs to be a predator free environment. And I have a sump gremlin. He came with a fw tank someone gave me that is now my sump.

I have about 20lbs of LS and about 10 lbs of rubble rock. I also have a few hermits and bunch of cerith snails. Plus a huge clump of cheato.
Ive also been throwing in xenia into my fuge because it supposedly removes nutrients. Was better to put in there then the toilet lol
