What Type of Power Head Should I Get?

Hi, I am getting all the gear needed for my 125. I am thinking about using 2 / 1,500gph, one for each side. It does have dual overflows, but I want to make sure I have enough circulation. Any suggestions for this reef and what type of PH's should I buy? Any brands I should Avoid? Thanks, Barry

well after everyone said stay away from rio...i didn't.. i never used them for anything serious, but did use them for water movement in the tank. i ordered two brand new rio's that 2 weeks later started to humm uncontrollably so i threw them away after trying to fix them and i had two large rios in a closeloop system ,, one started to make a rattle noise in the tank but thought nothing of it, i came home one night and put my hand in the tank and almost got put on a knee..it was somehow HOT..thank god i noticed quick(since then i got a grounding probe!!!) and immediately took them out of the tank and threw them away
i did however order two maxijet's and a tunze!!

What is included in a closed loop? This tank has double overflows, what else is needed?

if you go with a powerhead then get maxi-jet900's. Lots of flow, quiet & energy efficient. If you are interested in a closed loop, which I also reccomend and use, then do a search on them, you should find lots of useful info. Heres a pic of a common design that many are using. Cheap & easy to build yet very effective.

Escape: What would be the best pump for this as it will go in a 125 gallon glass double corner overflow? I do plan on having a 55 galon sump/refugium. I guess I am looking for the best brands.

You have 2 overflow boxes. You don't need a closed loop or power heads just use one powerfull pump with a "T" connector to line returning to a box. You can use a Mag 24 you will have crazy current in your tank plut it will turn it over at least 12 times an hour, and no ugly power heads! Just my oppinion!

i have 120 + 2 overflow and i put there the mag drive 1200 it's run good .
if you put bigger then that you will have over heat more then that each over flow can handle 600 gph the maximum you can put it's the mag1800.
i decide to go with the mag 12 because a lot of ppl told me that they use in the mag18 they have problem with noise and over heat.
i put 2 2600gph ph and i am wait to the 3 one. but 2 can be good you want a strong skimmer this is the main important things........

YOu can go with the mag 18 too as far as gph you have a head loss thats whay you go with more even though the overflows only handle 600 each. I setup my friends tank with a mag 24 3 months ago and he is happy. It is the same size as yours too. His corals are constantly moving, there is allot of water movement. Plus it will probably be cheaper than purchasing a bunch of powerheads.

Its not about how much flow you have, its how you direct it. You're going to have to adjust your flow somewhat once you get the tank up and running anyway....you'll set it up and realize that you get areas where detritus collects and needs to be removed and because of that you need to add ph .
i run the tank bb so i go with a stron ph but if you want to run dsb so you need to be sure that the ph not float the sand. this is my opinion maybe i am wrong....

Anyone ever heard of or used this type of pump before? 3Year warranty and a 1.5" intake and out.
