I am doing a small DIY project for a sump. I bought all the stuff a while back, and then read on here that I bought the wrong silicone. So I went out and bought the new stuff and put it with the stuff that I had already bought. Now I can't remember which stuff was the wrong and which was the right. But can't find the post where I read the info. I have regulard GE brand silicone 1 and silicone 2. Thanks everyone.

LOL. that's kinda funny. Something I would do.
I'm sorry I can't help, but I'm glad you posted this thread because I was just about to do a DIY myself and I purcahsed GE SILICONE I. I didn't know there was a good or bad, so you may have just saved my fishies.
I'm interested in the answer too.

I'm building a sump/frag tank... but using acrylic so can't really help you :(
I do know however last time I was at Lowe's they did have aquarium safe silicone for glass. Said so on the package :)

I would think that the aquarium safe stuff is no different from the other silicone (whichever one we are supposed to use, silicone I or II) They just label it as such so we buy it, and I'm sure it works.

GE Silicone I is safe. I have used it in my sump...overflow...uv sterilizer. GE silicone II has a mildew resistant compound that is toxic from what I have read. Don't use GE Silicone II.

Thanks chris.
I just did a quick search and saw your post right this second. i was gonna link it. actually, I still will for the OP.
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/325317/ge-silicone-i-white
and here's another good link
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/319057/is-this-silicone-safe
the 2 threads say Exactly what chris said. Get silicone I, not II, adn makes sure it's NOT mildew resistant or the chemicals may slowly leak into the system...
Search button is your friend.

I will also add to this discussion that I have used both clear...and accidentally picked up white GE silicone I...either one works fine with no ill effects, but the clear sure looks a whole lot better
