I have a 33 gallon long tank and would love to get a tang but what tang would go good in my tank ,I currently have a few damsels and a clown fish. What would you recommend if not a tang for a 33 gal long tank.

there isnt a tang that would be good for a tank that small.
look online at fish and they will give you a minimum tank size.
tangs need a 6 foot long tank to keep stress free

there is no tang 4 that size.
but if it is a must have for ur tank then a baby kole/yellow eye tang would be my choice, cause they are one of the smallest tangs in the hobby.
but i wouldn't. even tho it could happen.
there is a 1in baby blue tang in my LFS 12gal nano. so i think a 1 in yelloweye/kole tang could be a possibility for a 33gal.

but not a permanent fish maybe like 3 or 4 years depending on how fast they grow. or longer i dont know, i dont have a lot of info on tangs. but i do know that u have to have a lot of algae in ur tank.

I definately agree with deejeff442. Although a 33 gallon aquarium may actually be long enough (IMO) since it's the same length as a 55g/75g - it's still only a 33 gallon. I think you would be better off keeping away from any tangs since stress from lack of swimming room is probably one of the most common happenings with tangs, which in turn would probably lead to disease.

And disease will be your biggest problem with a tang, much less a stressed tang.
I would go with a small angel over a tang.

I don't think you need a 6 foot tank to keep a tang -- totally untrue.
As far as if you feel you still need a tang -- I would go for more of the round body shape like a yellow tang versus a long tang like the powders or blue hippo type.
But a 33 gallon tank... I would skip one as well.
