What type of top do you use on your tank?

I have been thinking about the pro's/cons of removing the glass tops off my 120 mainly due to heat issues. The more I research the more I find most people seem to go topless! Does this sound right? So what do you use? glass, eggcrate, topless, or other?
Thanks,
Kyle

I would go topless if i could. If you want to clean your glass all the time then go for it. Its just another impediment to light penetration. Circumstances now don't allow me. I.E. a non waterproof light.

topless
let's the light in better and also allows for better oxygen exchange
also allows more evaporation but hey the world is not perfect

right now I have one top on and one top off on each side. I need at least some of the tops on to hold the lights. Would eggcrate be better than the glass?

I have glass, but i have one question how do you keep the fish in if you don't have a top on?

I only have my canopy over the tank. I did not use any glass tops. It is open. Evaporation may be a bit more with an open tank, but heat dissipation and gas exchange are much better.

i have tried both ways and topless is the way to go imo, less heat, no unsightly salt creep and easier to get into with out propping them up.

For my new reef, I'm going topless. For the FOWLRS that are already set up, I use the glass canopy. I haven't really had a problem with salt creep. Maybe I'm just lucky.
