Because of the care that my LFS takes with their fish. No fish is sold for a week after acclimation for observation and to ensure that they are eating. They also treat and medicate in hospital tanks should any new arrivals get sick. Their prices are a tad higher than normal FS which is fine by me, but to date my most expensive loss was a Midas Blenny, at the time about 8 months ago cost me $70.00. Not a ton of money but an important lesson about them and how they are really good jumpers. I made up for it when I found a RBTA for only $30.00.

$50 flasher wrasse that died in QT when it developed Ich. Glad I did not just drop it in my DT as that bill would have been much higher!

I haven't had any fish die except for a lionfish which arrived pretty much dead, floating upside down in the bag. I acclimated it and put it in the tank but it didn't live for too long. It was $19.

You should have fed your green carpet more!
personally, the most expensive fish that I have lost was a $45 pygmy angelfish.

Freshwater goldfish, i had it for three years then no power during winter. It was one of those fancy ones with the brain lookin thing on its head. Although i bought it for 10 dollars, when it died it was larger then a softball, and from what i've seen they go for around 40-50 at that size.
So... 40 dollar goldfish.

My male Blonde Naso Tang was 100 bucks, which was the most expensive fish I lost but I lost more than one at the same time. I went on my honeymoon and lost 3 Blue Hippo's a Powder Blue, A Blonde Naso, an 11 inch Volitan, and an 8 inch Clown Trigger all in one week. It was quite the fish bill, thats for sure, and I am just now starting to add fish in the tank again and its been since early December.
