I was just wonering what kind of wattage I should get for my tank that I am setting up right now. I am going to get halides and was considering the 150 WATT 14K HQI REEFSTAR. Does anyone have an opinion on this setup. Would that be enough light for clams and some sps. It is 18" cube.

A single 150w HQI would be enough. Place your clams a little higher up in the column.
With an 18" cube, it is going to get crowded with clams and SPS. Be sure to keep a close eye on your water parameters if you don't have a sump/fuge.

Thanks for the help. I will have both a sump and a fuge when all is said and done. Rigth now I am just building the tank and am looking at about a 1 year timeline before the tank will have any significant bioload in it. I am trying to get everything setup and will mature the tank and fuge for probably six months until I add any livestock. Then it will be a very slow process to add the rest.

Kudos to you for having the patience to do it right. You will have a much more stable system in the long run. Good luck!

Thanks,
This is my second reef and the first one, I went to fast and man was it a pain. I loved it, but there where a lot of problems. To many creatures had to sacrifice there lives for my ignorance and impatience. It won't happen again.
