What kinda of corals will be ok with 216 watts of t-5. In a 80 gal. tall
L 48 INCHES W 13 INCHES H 30 INCHES. I also got a 5 inch DSB.
One other ??? with the tank being 13 inches wide does that make up for the depth????

Depends on what T5 set up your using and how tall your willing to stack your liverock to place corals on. you'll be able to keep your typical LPS and softies regardless. If you have a good 4 bulb T5 set up (ice cap retro, TEK, giesemann) you can keep SPS just make sure they are up in the first 18" of your tank (high light SPS no more than a foot down, Monti cap and lower light demanding SPS up to 18" down). If you have a marginal T5 set up (Nova Extreme) you should probably upgrade if you want to keep high demand SPS. 4 bulbs over a 12-13" wide aquarium is status quo (its what fits best over that width), wont change anything on how they penetrate a 30" depth.

the nova extremes good i have it on my 40 with sps so i dont no y ur saying its marginal
marginal is relative. its inferior to individually reflected T5 systems and the bulbs are inferior to the popular high par T5 lamps out (ATI, UVL, Giesemann). Not saying its good for nothing or you cant keep good stuff but as far as T5 set ups go its pretty low on the totem pole. Not something you would optimally choose with an SPS dominated tank in mind.

yeah they will easily live subtracting the 5" sand bed from the 30". I wish I lived in Vabeach. I have to travel over their from NN everytime I want to visit a decent pet store. I work on 1rst colonial though (just nothings open when I work).

My current tank is only two months old so I only have four corals. Fish Safari is by far the best I've seen around here (plus aquatics is all they do). They have over 17 coral only tanks, do their own aquaculturing, is the only local store that actually really bothers with SPS and reef equipment (large halide bulb selection ect). I visit animal jungle, they usually have pretty good fish selection but the tanks arent always healthy, they do stupid stuff (like once ordered a tank full of leapord wrasse which I garauntee none lived;would help if the tanks had more than 2mm of sand and liverock to feed from, last time 3 jawfish in the same tank with no rocks or rubble and clearly stressed hovered in a corner with other more aggressive fish in the tank; probably jumped by now) and they suck for corals but have decent supplies. I get books from there and take a walk between the shark and koi pond (hell they even had a little monkey in his own monkey room) buts it more looking than buying. I check out care-a-lot pets because all corals are $39.99 (can sometimes make a find).

Where is care a lot at? ...I agree about fish safari... But Reef Chief blows all those places away! ALL SALTWATER TONS OF CORALS AND FRAGS AND GREAT HEALTHY FISH! it is a little bit more pricey. They are located near tcc.

when I had my last tank Reef chief didn't yet have a store and was getting things sorted so I never got to check him out but I still have the card. the guy who gave me the card said it was very close to animal jungle as far as location. I'm not sure where the virginia beach location of care a lot is, they have a newport news location too so I go to that one.

OK but what if i have the nova extreme pro but changed the bulbs they come with to better brand bulbs ??

I think the nova extreme is fine, it is better reflected and has two more bulbs. I would want to use the best bulbs regardless of fixture or type of lighting.
