When we get to the point of buying fish for our new tank we are looking at getting two of the clown fish(the ones that look like nemo) my question is what can we get that they will nest in and is easy to take care looks cool and is not an anemone?

They will host in large featherdusters, in or on some mushrooms but really depends on the fish themselves (they are all different). Aquacultured are sometimes harder to host in anemones.

Many have told of hosting in frogspawn, elegance, adn Feather D users or mushies. Mine has just started hosting in my wellsophyllia. I have had the clown for a year and the Wellsy for only a few months. Maybe 1 month ago it started acclimating to it. All clowns are different. I have misbar false perc. They have also been known to host in zoos. All corals but the elegance are considered easy to take care of if tank params are consistent and ideal. Anemones are by NO means the BEST only teh easiest and most common. A BEST host invertebrate is hard to say other than in the wild it is ALMOST ALWAYS an anemone. Stick to anemones or corals, and then stick to LPS or or SPS or softies, and within that a few zoos and mushies may be kept with a either. Feather dusters SHOULD be kept in all tanks if you ask me. Tehy are just beautiful. Good luck, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH.

honstly the list would be a lot shorter if you asked what they wont host in. I have seen clowns host powerheads, shrooms, featherdusters, clams toadstools hammer coral, torch coral, frogspawn and MUCh much more.

I've seen them on leathers and i saw a pair hosting a 20" giant clam at the coral farm near me, they swim in and out of the clam's siphon, suprised they don't get killed doing that but they don't.

When it comes to clowns forming relationships with inverts it's hard to say.
In the wild it's anemones, in the home tank it's whatever they have available and they like. It is not always fortunate for the hosting invert though. I have seen clowns host frogspawn, hammer, torch, frilly mushrooms, gonipora, and even green starburst corals. I have also seen some of these corals die from the unwanted attention. So becareful what you wish for.

I have a mated pair and they love my shrooms. The male sometimes peels off and hits this group of hair algae that is about 4 inches long. He just loves to get in there a wiggle about. So cute. My female started going in the BTA I got in Jan. But, her preference is the shrooms.

My False Perc hosts my Frogspawn. It didn't do that though until I got another smaller one to try and pair it up with.

I have a mated pair of clowns that host an empty seashell in the corner of my tank. The female gets very aggravated when I put my hand in there to move things around. She actually tries to attack my hand!! I would love to have an anemone, but I'm not sure that am ready to tackle that!! Good Luck! :happyfish
