What will happen if I cut off a polyp of a xenia

Depending on the type of Xenia, water parameters, predators, etc. usually in about 2 weeks. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.

I don't know that you can frag xenia by cutting off just a polyp
. Usually, you take a stalk or a whole portion of the stalk. How long it takes for it to multiply will depend on the type and strain of xenia that you have. I have some that I put in a tank about 4 months ago, and its growing so fast I've had to frag it twice already. Hope that helps.

in my tank it would take like a week, but all tanks are different. you can cut off a single polyp or a whole stalk, IME, and it will live. you can even cut a stalk in half vertically and it will heal as 2 seperate stalks.

IMO, you dont need to frag xenia... as said before.. things grow like weeds....
IME... as soon as one of my stalks grows enough polyps... it starts splitting into threes all by itself... what i do is i place pieces of rock or rubble by the splitting stalks looking for "new ground" and it seperates in 3 days. then when those grown more or enough polyps.. they do the same thing over again.

The more you cut, the more you will have. I frag xenia every week. I usually give it out for free almost if people come pick it up. In my tank, it IS unstoppable!!!!
