i am wondering if someone can help me figure out what my turnover rate in my 125g will be. i will have 4 seio superflows in there, they are the M1500 (1500 gph) for a total of 6000gph and be using a mag18 for a return pump feeding 2 return lines. i dont know how to figure it out, can anyone help me out? thanx in advance- Tony

i think you did something wrong, if its 57x turnover then ud have like a hurricane in there , 10x is good for a FO, 25x is good for a reef

what do you mean by that? 6000 + 1125 = 7125 devide that by 125 and i get 57? am i doint the figuring right???

Maby this will help,
4 seio superflows - 1500gph each 6000gph total
1 mag 18 1125gph ( I assume that is after the head feet)
total tank turnover is 7,125 gph
now your tank is 125 gallon so take the 7125gph turn over divide it by the tank size and you get a turn over rate of 57x That is a bit high :scared: but the seios have a differnt flow pattern than a standard powerhead usually for fish only 10x is fine and reefs 20x is fine unless you have mainly a SPS tank then even higher.

Another better option is to put the seios on timers or a wave maker like the red sea wavemaker ($110) it will alternate the pumps so you get more random current maby have 1 or 2 on at a time but alternate between the 4. That is a better and healthier way for the tank.

The main thing with a reef tank circulation is that you want the current to be random not the same all the time that is why timmers or a wave controller is the best thing to use with powerheads. Also just got my tank up and running couldn't get very good pics of it the sun was glaring and it has not cleared up completly yet but here you go. Just rocks and sand in it right now. Haven't done much aquascaping yet just kinda threw it all in to get it going. MY lighting is just a coralife twin T-5 right now to still need to get the 48" aqualight pro retro and make the hood yet.

The Seio's however are adjustable. I've never seen the 1500, but I use a 620 and you can twist the intake to slow the flow down to 300gph instead of the 620 when wide open. I personally wouldn't recommend putting the Seio's on a wavemaker. This is only because when I turn mine off to do a water change, or to feed-it doesn't always turn on when I plug them back in. I'm not sure why, I usually just "knock" it and then it seems to kick on. I don't know why this is though

lookin damn good jamie, man i still regret not buying that 210. after all the money i just spent on my 125 i could have had the 210 up minus the live rock i would have needed. im glad it sold for you though. keep me updated as your tank goes together. i should have all my stuff wednesday so i will post more pics then. also what sand did you go with, you told me but i forgot, i am going with the bahama oolite from carib sea.
