A quarantine will ive you a place to house sick fish in a stress free environment, and treat them with whatever means you choose (hyposalinity, copper, etc.) without effecting the chemistry of your display tank. It will also allow you to quarantine newly acquired specimen to avoid introducing any new disease into your aquarium.
A sump will increase the total water volume of your tank. It also gives you a place to hide filtration, heaters, skimmers, etc., cleaning up the look of your display tank.
A refugium is another possibility. It allows you to house your skimmer and heater, while having a compartment for denitrifying macroalgae such as chaeto. It will act as a form of filtration itself.
research all three possibilities and judge which would be best for your environment. Personally, I think a quarantine or refugium are your best bet.

depending on the size of your fish you will have id say use the 15 gal for a QT and the other for a refuge....of course that 44 is a very big fuge.....you would have some great filtration no doubt for your 55

Agreed. would be a very nice fuge if done correctly.

hmm very interesting.....do you use that set up?? is it efficient? i was thinking about getting a 20 long and using it for a qt and take my QT now which is a 29 and making it a sump/fuge for my tank, or would that not be effective for a 75?

the only problem i see with that diagram is in the event that a power outtage happened, the overflow would fill and mix all together, making quite a mess.. unless the baffles are high enough, in which case couldnt you drill a hole to the bottom instead of overflow over the top into the return area, where the fuge and skimmed water mix?

I run it like it is here. Just build the baffle from the fuge high enough so that it will be above water level when power is out. A hole in the bottom would keep the fuge from filling up.
If noise from the fuge overflow is a problem put dabs of silicone all over the baffle so it will breakup the flow and not sound like a waterfall.
